What are some newsletter story ideas?

for brainstorming potential articles.

The following are some ideas that I’ve been thinking about the past few days that could potentially make decent stories. I was trying to think of topics that would benefit the community in some way, e.g., in terms of publicity, stuff community members might not be aware of/want more information about, etc.

• Small, niche businesses around the area (e.g., ones that could use some publicity or just seem interesting)

• Public health services around the area (locations, services offered, health stats, etc.)

• Green initiatives in the community (places/businesses that might be trying to go green, what places/businesses need to go green, what places/businesses are doing to go green, etc.)

• Domestic violence/women’s centers/shelters (locations, services offered, stats, how heavily these places are utilized, is the area lacking, etc.)

• Apt. complexes/landlords that are off the radar (what do they own, avg. rent, complex details, etc.)

• Employment centers around the area and employment statistics (maybe this could be combined with something on résumé writing?)

• Happenings at MMCC (like, maybe an MMCC beat/correspondent or something?)

Like I said, these are just ideas that I’m throwing out there, so, as always, feel free to comment. But it’d be super awesome if people could contribute some more ideas:)

I’d like to see this entire fucker published:

we.riseup.net/mpfs/article-action-will-...

Just off the top of my head:

Homeless in Isabella county
how to find free legal aid
Freegan/Dumpster diving in mtp
Composting
Local author book reviews
Spotlighting locally owned businesses
Recycle center discussion; what can/can’t we recycle here – wine bottles:( How can we change
Sex health; now that planned parenthood is gone, what options do we have?
Spotlighting profs who are great (or not so great)
What apts can you have companion animals

It’s endless, really.

I think a homeless article would be very interesting. But not only limiting it to the struggles of the individuals but also the struggles of the groups attempting to help them. I know from Red Cross members that there is a massive short fall in the number of food pantries and other aid for the disadvantaged.

An analysis of the housing situation in the area, too many apartments, why the local government keeps approving the construction of new complexes, the quality of the buildings, the possible anti trust laws that are being violated by the local lords.

I like the idea of an MMCC corespondent. Not just to shamelessly claim the position mind you. But I think an examination of the place in order.
