Health care and education

Do we really "need" health care? Or "education"?

Hi. I agree with most of the statement on the front page of solidarity-economy.net . But, I have strong reservations about the idea that people need health care or education. A corollary to the idea that a person is “entitled” to health care, or anything other than that which nature provides, is tantamount to suggesting that it is ok to coerce other people to provide it. I have a very big problem with this.
If health care were to be provided freely, compulsory labour would have to be introduced to ensure that they were provided. As regards education, what sort of “education” do you have in mind? Compulsory education? I could never support any sort of compulsory anything.

I need to write more precisely what do I mean. I don’t believe in enforcing anything on anyone. So anything ‘compulsory’ doesn’t really fit in my world view.

I don’t say that we should create some ‘state’ and IT ‘should’ provide something to people. I look more towards ‘self-organized’ community when no one should expect anything else than one can take initiative in organizing.

In Solidarity Economy I would like to bring our attention that we may want to focus on providing basic survival needs to all of us first. And do this by common effort. This way we don’t leave in situation when some people struggle to just survive and other go on some ‘ego trips’, often not even noticing suffering of others. But once more I don’t believe in any form of enforcement. I like when everyone finds an ‘inner motivation’ to do things out of one’s own choice.

Thanks for explaining elf. And sorry if my initial post came across as somewhat agressive.

Well, I think I completely agree with this.

I hope you’re keeping well.
