Surveillance under Surveillance

Steps to add a Surveillance device:

  1. Login to OpenStreetMap
  2. Find the location of the device on the map
  3. Click “Edit”
  4. Click on “Point”, then place the pin where the device is
  5. Under “Select feature type”, click on “Point”
  6. Under Tags, in the first field, type: man_made
  7. In the next field, type: surveillance

You should now see:

  • Feature Type changes to “Surveillance”
    New Fields:
  • Surveillance Kind
  • Surveillance Type
  • Surveillance Zone
  • Direction (Degrees Clockwise)

Additional fields for Camera Field of View:

  • surveillance:type
    camera
  • camera:type
    fixed
  • camera:direction
    0 – 360 (in degrees) or N / NE / E / SE / S / SW / W / NW
  • camera:angle
    15 – 90 (in degrees) from an almost horizontal view to a ground-pointed camera
    default: 15°
  • height
    3 – 12 (in meters)
    default: 5m

Optional:

  • surveillance:zone
    bank / building / parking / shop / town / traffic
  • camera:mount
    ceilling / pole / wall
  • operator
    organization or person operating the camera
  • name
    name of the camera
  • ref
    reference number of the camera
  • image
    link to an externally hosted image that depicts the tagged object

8. Complete as many of the fields as possible.
9. Click “Save” in the top right

“Our database is updated once an hour. So it might take a while until your OSM entries are visible on the Surveillance under Surveillance map.”
