Blooming in Space is a decentralized network of autonomous communities — households, collectives, neighborhoods, squats, farms, ecovillages, intentional communities or other groups that share a living space — committed to radically transforming the way we live. We identify specifically with horizontal, anti-oppressive, self-organizing, directly participatory practices as we work to contribute to the movements for community autonomy and radical sustainability. Please visit our blog, which is updated more frequently than this page.
Specifically, we seek:
•To create, develop and evolve locally integrated living systems, social structures, and ultimately entire infrastructures that can meet our own and our neighbors’ needs in ways that are deeply ecological, community-controlled, and autonomous from oppressive, centralized institutions.
•To facilitate the intentional design of such systems and structures by the communities who will use them, using horizontal, anti-oppressive processes and emphasizing social justice and solidarity.
•To offer a variety of examples of working systems that serve as viable models for such intentional, autonomous development, with an emphasis on models that are being put into practice now.
•To make accessible the tools and resources necessary for communities of all kinds to design and build their own such systems. These resources are free with a focus on low-tech, low-cost, do-it-together technologies and models.
•To build an organized network of already established communities that identify with this purpose, creating a space for dialogue & collaboration among diverse communities, cultures, subcultures and movements, and facilitating the sharing of ideas, tools, information, and resources among them. Together, to build a more visible movement.
•Finally, to catalyze the formation of new communities that share our purpose, and to make these possibilities more widely available and accessible to mainstream culture.
