Free Ride Notes
08/31/2010

Brake Cable Box

  • 5 cable types
  • either drill a hole through the middle of the box and spool them around a piece of rebar or PVC
    OR
  • fix a slotted box to house the different brake cable boxes
  • either way, make sure to leave in the cardboard box it comes in so they don’t unwind.

Ball Bearing Trays

  • crates to keep jars/bottles in
  • crates need to labeled, as do individual containers
  • possibly color coded

Tires/Tubes

  • need to find a place to recycle tires – piling up
  • Mike had been working on some contacts
  • Liberty Tires recycles tires – wants $1 a tire
  • if we need to pay for it, could look into grant funding for it
  • mechanic shop near Free Ride will take 2 tires (car tires) – could set up a rotating drop-off among volunteers
  • someone suggested trying to get money from recycling aluminum to offset cost of recycling
  • Mark (I think* ) was going to look into

Bike Corral

  • Just too many bikes
  • Location is probably okay, but need to cap the size with some sort of hard barrier
  • Incoming bike inventory – tag bikes with date/general condition – masking tape on top tube
  • Use this as an opportunity to start inventory of earn-a-bike status and audit who has been working on their earn-a-bikes
  • Construct a small pen up front with ready-to-sell adult bikes
  • Need to have someone organizing / tidying / auditing status of earn-a-bikes and donations regularly so that we can keep the bikes flowing through the shop

Tools/Cabinet

  • Need a list to keep track of what we need
  • Re-hang white board somewhere
  • Tool cabinet was hung – need 3/4” pegs for it
  • Drive-train* figure out what to put in it

Hanging Wheels

  • 1/4” cable (Paul guesses $.61/ft – need about 25 ft. per string). With clamps, about $20 a cable.
  • Hang up wheels and/or tires on it – separate with small pieces of plastic pipe
  • If it seems to be working, can have different size wheels on different cables. At least would need to have different
  • Can color code the wheels somehow (possibly paint the hooks they’ll be hanging on)
  • Can hang tires too

Youth Member Log Book

  • Attach permission slips to member sheet and/or log sheets
  • Alternately, could try to combine member sheets and permission slips
  • Set up an Excel spreadsheet*
  • Phone number on member log sheet
  • Could keep permission slip in a separate file, and just have a staff member sign off on it

Kids Bike Distribution

  • Checking with PSC and other places
