Sorry I can’t be at the next Burn Out Task Force meeting. I wrote some notes here that are hopefully useful.

As I understand the situation:

Final Objective: Stop burnout and encourage engagement.
Initial Goal: Survey FR

Ideally, break questions into groups probing specific sources and mentalities.
Survey should be short, about 5 written and not too many multiple choice.
9 point scale for multiple choice? Gives a middle number and a good range in between.
Multiple choice is where we’ll get our best data, questions should be as specific and engaging as possible.
If people want to say something else, they will use the open response.

Thinking about FR and its relation to the factors Will listed (this is to help formulate questions):

Work Load – staffers, organizers, sustainability
Control – who what where when why?
Reward – does effort=payoff?
Fairness – abuse of privileges, acting solo
Community – communication, divergence from values/vision
Values – FR values versus Individual’s values

“Top Down” – Council is central but equal and available
- Everyone will voice concerns through survey, but long-term solutions must go through council since it is the only point for consensus and sustainability.

Possible questions:

(Angles to consider:
Work Load – is voluntary, why do you do it at all?
Control = empowerment
Reward – parts? bikes? people? community?
Fairness – equal opportunity
Community – pgh, cycling, shop, committees — how can these be fostered?
Values – again, FR values versus Individual notions)

Why did you first come to FR?
What have you done with FR? (use shop, volunteer, shadow, staff, council…)
On average are you involved weekly, biweekly, monthly…?
Is it easy to become involved?
Is it confusing to become involved?
Have you stopped using FR? Why?
What would you like to see at FR?
Do organizational issues deter you?
Over what part of FR would you like to have control/input? What prevents you?
Are open shop privileges consumate with the work load of volunteering?

Collect general data: age, join date, end date, frequency, seasonal?, purpose (hobby, sell, transportation…)

If anyone can actually comprehend this, 10 points.
