What to Expect for the Only Watch 2021 Auction

Only Watch, the biennial charity auction for watchmakers is set to take place on November 6, 2021, at Christie’s Geneva. With 54 brands, including Patek Philippe watches, there is plenty to look at if you are a watch enthusiast. All proceeds will go towards research in the fight against Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.

This huge undertaking involves each brand creating and donating a unique timepiece just for this event. In addition to Patek Philippe, some of the other brands include Audemars Piguet, Blancpain, Breguet, Chopard and Jacob & Co. Independent brands are also expected to present new collaborations.

Everyone anticipates an explosive auction night as it is one of the most anticipated events on the horological calendar. The stakes are high based on the success of Only Watch 2019 where more than 36 million Euros was raised. Contributing to that grand total was from the collection of Patek Philippe watches, the Patek Philippe Grandmaster Chime Ref. 6300A that brought in 31 million Swiss Francs.

Of course, the Patek Philippe will make a return this year. In the past, rare handcrafted releases included wristwatches. This time, the brand will present a desk clock from 1923. The brand is remaining true to its ability to attract huge interest in the Only Watch auction event with this design.

This year, the Geneva manufacturer will present its unique complicated desk clock that was actually inspired by another clock. Designed with a perpetual calendar that displays:

• moon phases
• week number
• day
• month
• power reserve
• leap year

It does all things while also keeping an accurate time. Adding to its elegance is a sterling silver case decorated with American walnut inlays and vermeil elements.

Sharing the auction block are eight other collaborative pieces. Designers, artists and other brands have partnered with music legends and movie greats to present eye-catching elegance. Imagine the opportunity to buy co-creations from The Godfather director Francis Ford Coppola, guitar maestro John McLaughlin, and watchmaker F.P. Journe.

Having made a public appearance during a September promotional tour at the Monaco Yacht Show, all timepieces will travel to Dubai and Asian cities such as Tokyo before reaching their final stop in Geneva.
