Early Life
Hwang So-hee was born in Seoul, South Korea, on April 7th, 1988. She is quite private about her personal life and has not disclosed anything about her parents. As a child, she became interested in music and wanted to become a DJ.
While studying in high school, Hwang began performing as a DJ in 2013. Later, she went to college to study musical stage acting. However, that did not last long, and she dropped out of college in 2014 to pursue her career as a DJ.
Career
In August 2015, DJ Soda teamed up with fellow DJs Sidney Samson and Will Sparks. They got a chance to perform at Life in Color in Seoul, South Korea. That year, she went on tour with the Korea World DJ Festival.
DJ Soda eventually signed with “Warner Music Group” and released her debut EP, “Closer” in June 2015. She teamed up with the South Korean girl group, “Sistar,” and performed at several events.
Soda continued to perform in big events, including the 2017 Bangkok’s “S20 Songkran Music Festival.” That event was one of the world’s top three music festivals.
Breakthrough
Her first world tour kicked off in Taiwan; at that time, she was not even famous. However, it was the time when these people showed her much love and partied like royalty. That set her on the road to success.
Throughout 2018, she has joined sub-labels like the “House of Music” and “Highline Entertainment.” In June of that year, she was one of the performers at the “Ultra Music Festival Korea.”
DJ Soda collaborated with Jamaican DJ to release the single “Never Let You In.” The song went viral, topping the charts in Indonesia, Malaysia, Hong Kong, and Singapore.
In 2019, she performed at Singapore’s “Typhoon 8” musical festival and then Switzerland’s “World Club Dome: Snow Edition.” At the end of that year, Hwang received the 9th Korea Hallyu Awards, the culture prize in the indie category.
In April, DJ released her single, “Over You,” in collaboration with “Ps#cho Boys Club”. Later that year, she teamed up with singer 1st Klase for the track “Holding Back.” She also dropped the song “Shooting Star” in June 2020.
