This is a song from Slavic Macedonia and Western Bulgaria in a 9 rhythm that is related to Tamzara.
Scores¶
Here is the score for treble clef, and here it is for alto clef.
Recordings¶
As far as recordings, my favorite is from Tanya Dosseva’s album Singing Heart, which is not widely available. I’m not going to post it here since I don’t have the rights to distribute it. However, there are many good renditions on YouTube, such as this one.
Percussion¶
Fast asymmetric rhythms (i.e., comprised of 2’s and 3’s) admit many different patterns as long as you respect the basic structure, here
2-2-2-3
It’s also import that the 3 has a “kick” where the first two pulses are sounded.
A basic version is this (each symbol is one beat of the 9):
D-D-D-DT--
or, adding a k just to fill the silence at the end,
D-D-D-DTk
More typical is to fill in twice as fast, such as (each symbol is half a beat of the 9):
DkTk TkTk TkTk DkTkTk
One could drop some of the fills, such as:
D--- TkTk TkTk D-T-k-
