Reedaha

Scores and comments

I’ve transcribed this from recordings by Sakher Hattar. One is a medley of this folk song followed by other songs, and the other is just Reedaha.

Medley

The third song in the medley is actually in a 3-beat meter, but I’ve changed it to 4 so that novice drummers don’t have to deal with that change. Here are scores for treble and alto clefs.

Reedaha proper

This recording is available on YouTube here. The score for treble is here, and the score for alto is here.

I’ve only written the chorus once for efficiency; I scored both repeats because the second is more embellished than the first. Of course, listen to the recording and let that be your guide. The structure of the piece is
1. 4 bars percussion solo
2. Chorus
3. 4 bars percussion solo, verse 1, chorus
4. 4 bars percussion solo, verse 2, chorus
5. End with 4 bars of percussion, or whatever ending suits your fancy. The recording fades out, which is hard to do live.

Percussion for “Reedaha proper”

The percussion follows a specific pattern with first and second halves:

|D-D-D-Tk|TkTkTkTk|

which can be elaborated in a number of ways, such as turning the second half into Malfouf:
|D-D-D-Tk|T--T--T-|
