why "rms's mostly slax" should be called rmsgnulinux.org

or to put it another way- why not?

i already refer to it that way already. whenever i post something about rms, i go ahead and say “rmsgnulinux.org,” so it turns into a link. otherwise, people may say “what is it?” then they probably wait for a link. i like to skip that part.

rms’s mostly slax will probably not be called that forever. it’s new, and the name is less important than being listed on the gnu website, which in its “guidelines” (they seem more like requirements) for being listed, a fully free distro should not through its name, “promote” a distro that is not committed to user freedom (such as slax.)

being called “rms” without something to distinguish it from the person “rms” could be tedious, and if it was called rmsgnulinux.org it could be called rmsgl or rmsglo for short. (note that while the name will no longer expand to “rms’s mostly slax,” it will probably still be called “rms.”) and just because the official name is “rmsgnulinux.org,” doesn’t mean there’s anything wrong with calling it just “rmsgnulinux,” “rmsgl,” or “rmsglo” for short.

…and vice versa. of course you may read this and say “who cares?” who indeed… but if the name doesn’t matter at all, then there should be no problem changing it to “rmsgnulinux.org” – if the name does matter, this is my argument for changing it. there are other factors, like the fact that “.org” names already exist for popular free software titles, and that rms could use more promoting (and the devs more pushing) in my opinion, but i’ve tried to prioritize and keep this simple.
