Minutes for 3 January 2012

Business to discuss:
1. Elan and Embi desire to serve as medics at the January 17th action in DC (Occupy Congress): may budget funds be used for travel expenses i.e. bus tickets? Jose: Ask around because there will probably be a bus for OWS leaving for DC the day of the action.
2. FeatherHat: can we have maps ahead of time of all of the boroughs and Manhattan neighborhoods to help us figure out where actions are? i.e. large ones for the dispatch area and small ones for the medics; Justin will bottom-line this; medics consent to the use of budget funds to purchase maps/copy maps (“Supplies” part of budget)
3. Embi: announcement: Maxine is replacing David as a finance liaison and will eventually replace Embi as the point person
4. Justin: announcement: there are several medics leaving Thursday through the 10th for the New Hampshire primaries: Justin, Ed, Grace, possibly Bugz (confirm?), possibly more; while Justin is away, Embi will serve as caretaker of his space and will be running dispatch
5. Justin: Dispatch issue
a. medics must check in frequently with dispatch as to their whereabouts during an action; check in when coming on; check in when going off duty
b. use the buddy system . . . Embi!
c. dispatch should give a brief weather report to fellow medics so that they may dress appropriately
6. Jose is bottom-lining the supply shopping list
a. submitting it this week; email him about supplies needed (ex: we need 10 CPR face masks)
b. an ER doctor is donating life support stuff this week
c. Jose: remind me to check in with the RNs this week to see if they can donate anything to us
d. Jose will call about the bike carts (Bugz initial contact?)
7. Captain: proposes identification
a. Embi will bottom-line the patches (Jose offered to screen-print) . . . production tabled until next week’s discussion about design (Elan’s proposal)
b. Embi and Captain will bottom-line the passes . . . will have some ready for next week
8. Jose: Convergence Space: OMG affinity group is working to find space for us that is within the price range of $1,000-$1,500/month; they need us to draw up a proposal (in the interim, Justin has opened his space to approx 5 medics; Embi has an extra set of keys). Needs that we are brainstorming:
a. a loft-like space
b. commute to Manhattan within half an hour
c. 20′×20′
d. includes a bathroom w/ shower and a kitchen
e. includes storage space
f. sleeping space for 10
g. supply space
h. Justin will donate his TV to the space so that we may implement SmartMap
i. Janet will bottom-line; Embi will help with research
in the GARDEN (ideas for topics for next week’s meeting):
1. Elan: discussion of if we should keep the red or the red and black cross as our symbol, or if we should design something different
2. Justin: dispatch proposal
