24 Nov Meeting Notes

Meeting Notes

Logistics

This Meeting:
We discussed the excerpts from Gathering Moss that Jessica scanned for us, but decided to skip The NAFTA/FTAA article remaining from the previous week. The general consensus seemed to be that the NAFTA/FTAA article provided good information, yet less direct impact on what we might do locally & so consequently we didn’t discuss it. Leo brought cookies (Hip, Hip…) And John came for the first time (…Hooray!)

Next Meeting:
Movie night! Next meeting doesn’t have a reading, we’re watching Garbage Warriors (86mins) & a shorter film about Cuba’s response to their “peak oil” experience after the collapse of their supply line from Soviet Russia. No one quite remembered the name, but Google led me to this documentary, The Power of Community: How Cuba Survived Peak Oil (53mins). Also, putting “peak oil cuba” or some such into youTube brings up a good number of interviews & short pieces on the topic.

Scheduling:

  • Please check out of the Scheduling Page for the next meeting.
  • Also, spend some time with the General Scheduling Page so we can get a sense of the group’s “normal” weekly schedule & try to set a default meeting time/place, even though we’re all the type of folks who have variable schedules & we understand that our meetings will probably move around quite a bit.

REMEMBER TO BRING:

  • Local Species Show-&-Tell: the name, identifying features, habitat, etc. of some creature who lives in & around Pittsburgh.
  • A specific suggestion for a reading, whether a book expert, essay, or whatever.
  • Snacks, luxury teas, fine chocolates. This isn’t an actual requirement, I’m just throwing it out there.
