In the Spirit of the beginning of Occupy Pittsburgh, I thought we could read some articles regarding criticisms of the Occupy movement from marginalized communities.
Occupy Wall Street: The Game of Colonialism and Further Nationalism to be Decolonized from the Left
Native American Writer Reminds Occupy Wall Streeters Who the Real Occupiers Are
Dispatches from Indigenous Peoples Day Part1
Dispatches from Indigenous Peoples Day Part 2
And this entire blog, Unsettling America, is great and is packed with Indigenous/Native perspectives on OWS.
Occupy Wall Street Doesn’t Accurately Represent Struggling Black Population
Reparations Not Reform: An Appeal to the Occupy Wall Street Movement
Can people throw some discussion questions up here? I’ll start: Why is this important? Also, if anyone could post the statements that have been coming from the marginalized communities working group, or people of color working group, (here in Pittsburgh) that would be really great to have up. People have been talking about this already, which is great. By the time we have our group, occupy Pittsburgh will (hopefully) have been going on for a week! so that should also help inform our discussion. How can we be allies to people of color in this movement? |
