Statement on Palestine (TNM 2024)

RoR Helsinki, Tampere (ManseRoR) and Turku stand in solidarity with Palestinians and supports their liberation

We stand against genocide, apartheid, occupation and ethnic cleansing. This is deeply rooted in our principles.

The apartheid state of Israel was established with the support of Western countries in 1948. Since then, Palestine has suffered from settler colonialism and the apartheid system imposed by Israel after the 1967 war. This has been condemned as illegal by the International Court of Justice in July 2024. The dehumanization of the Palestinian people has been used deliberately as a tool to justify accelerating ethnic cleansing and systematic mass-murdering of civilians including children.

Even though over 81% of countries in UN (157 countries as in September 2025) have recognized the statehood of Palestine, and crimes against humanity committed by Israel have been condemned almost unanimously, the international community has been unable to stop the genocide. That’s why solidarity, civil organizing and active action to pressure political decicion-making is needed.

We propose that RoR bands strive to raise awareness about white privilege, and improve consensus decision-making skills, to ensure that RoR as a network is able to live by its core values.

White people form the majority in all RoR groups we know of. Given RoR’s connections to colonial history, it is crucial for all groups in the network to educate themselves about anti-racism, white privilege and colonialism.

We hope that the invitation materials for the next TNM will encourage bands to self-educate and discuss non-hierarchical consensus decision-making and cultural appropriation/anti-colonialism. The network already has its own materials on both of these.
