Crop tool used in Photoshop
Photoshop is popular software can be used for editing photographs, composting digital art and graphic design. It comes with various types of tools that can be used to edit or compose any kind of desired designs. Crop Tool
This crop tool helps to get rid of unwanted areas of the footage and increase focus on the image composition.
Basically, crop tool can be used to trim or expand edges of an image.
You can select it from left under toolbox. You may also used the shortcut key which is “C”. Clicking on the crop tool, corner and edge handles will appear on the boundaries of your image which can be adjusted to trim or extend edges of the image.

On selecting crop tool, the below properties appear which can be used for trimming or expanding the image or content:
Ratio
Ratio is used to reset the aspect ratio for the height and width. There are different presets which can used as per your selection requirement. On clicking on ratio different presets as below appear for you to select:
Swaps height and width
Using the swap icon, you can interchange the height and width. It is easy to change between portrait and landscape mode using the swap tool. Using the clear button next to swap, you can clear the aspect ratio.
Overlay option
On clicking on the overlay option, six different overlay options will appear for you to select from. These options are rule of thirds, grid, diagonal. Triangle, Golden ration and golden spiral.
Straighten Tool
If you wish to straighten something within your image in either vertical or horizontal position, you can use straighten tool. All you need to do is to click on one end and then hold your mouse and drag over to the other end. A path will be drawn in photoshop between the two points which is used to determine the angle for which the image needs to be rotated. On releasing the mouse, the image will rotate to adjust to the selected angle.
Content Aware
Content aware is used to fill the gaps while you use the crop tool to straighten or rotate an image beyond the image size.
In photoshop beside the crop tool, there are three other different types of crop tools. These are as presented below:
Perspective Crop Tool:
This tool can be used where we want to adjust only two adjustment corners of an image. Instead of simply cropping the image area, using this tool we can transform the perspective. This tool can be found in the same group of the crop tool in the photoshop tool bar.
Once you select this tool, you need to make a selection of the desire image by dragging the mouse. Soon after making the selection, you’ll see the small handles appear on the selection with grids. Refer the image below for preview.
Slice Tool and Slice Select Tool
This Slice Tool is used to slice the slices of image selected using the Slice Select Tool. This toll slices the entire Photoshop document into different slices. One can slice a large image into smaller sections that can later be fit together. Basically this tool can be termed as to be used to slice an image without cropping or cutting it. Using the slice tool, you can select and move the slice anywhere in the document.
Not only photo editors but web designers and graphic designers also use this tool to divide image into different pieces and export them individually. Thus, it is an important tool to learn in any graphic design course in Delhi.
This tool is also present within the group of crop tool.
To slice an image in Adobe Photoshop, first open the image you want to slice. Then a knife like icon will appear with which you need slice the image into desired slices. Refer the below for reference, where we will slice the image into two slices.
Once you have sliced the image, you need to save them so that each slice is saved differently. To save the sliced image, click on File>Export>Save for Web (Legacy). A panel will appear where the preset needs to be selected as JPEG. Once done, click on save on the panel. This will take you to another pop up panel where you need have select the destination to save the file. Once selected, simply click on save. Refer the folder and you will see individually saved slices of the image.
