  • Andre Comte-Sponville (A Short Treatise… pp. 87+) discusses how he considered adding solidarity to his list of virtues but decided against it. Says it either resolves to self-interest or justice/generosity, or in pathological cases to mere in-group bias. He notes that in English there is no adjectival form of solidarity the way there is for most virtues (though I think we’d understand something similar expressed idiomatically, e.g. “Is he cool?” “Yeah, he’s cool… he’s solid.” Or WSB’s “he’s a Johnson.”)
