“Early Saturday morning, April twenty-fifth, scores of artists and volunteers took to the streets of NYC armed with rollers and five gallon buckets of white paint. By the mid afternoon, this group had whitewashed over 120 outdoor advertising spaces.”

Great torrent site that I am a member of, and in good standing with.

Thus I can produce an invite code once every month(?) and I would like to share it with all.

On a more serious note regarding the swine flue: I think it’s important to share with you all a video that more than a few of my Mexican friends have thought necessary to watch for this particular moment (the swine flu). I’ll let you all be the judge of why:

“Pornography is a Left Issue”

The article that broke my addiction to pornography two years ago. I’d eventually like to do a free school on this topic.

Also posted in the Dinner and a Movie Discussion Thread

A friend in NYC sent me this link:

Green Edge Collaborative: Stories of community creating change

theleaflet.greenedgenyc.org

Within there was this story about Supper Clubs: people regularly get together to share meals and discuss their activism. In these cases, it’s mostly about environmental/sustainability discussions, but it could be so much more!

theleaflet.greenedgenyc.org/may09/suppe...

It’s kind of the vision I had for the dinner and a movie nights, except I saw cooking discussion in the beginning. we could nix the movie and just talk, have themed discussions, work on projects, brainstorm to solve group issues, whatever. I think that food is really important in creating communities; love the thought of nourishing people’s bodies and sharing ideas. We all have to eat, why not eat together! Even if we begin with dinner and a movie, it will evolve to what the group needs. They could be mini monthly/weekly retreats. Anyway, seeing other communities working together is inspiring.

I haven{t said much to you all about some of mine, and indeed angie{s and trevor{s, previous work with a group called the Coalition of Immokalee Workers. I frankly haven{t found the right moment or context to bring it up. But with the access we have to land (in order to grow food), the mount pleasant food project, and a cross-membership between the grocery co-op and our free school, it seems like food, and what{s more: food systems and food sov-er-en-ty (i can{t spell that word and i dont give a shit…english doens{t make any sense…), it seems like a good moment as any to at least let you guys know that this:

Is something that might be worth going to. Folks from mount pleasant, including myself, have gone before and could talk more about it.

anyway, I hope that you are all well.

San Francisco claims to be the most progressive city on the planet. Whether that’s true or not, well, who really knows. However, there is no denying the fact that, indeed, there is a great wealth of experiences and information concentrated in that “bay area” (as if there was only one bay in the world….).

There is a space called counterPULSE in San Francisco that holds some pretty cool talks and records them. Recently, just before leaving for mex. I was able to attend one of those talks, and, to my surprise, Andrej Grubacic, who was part of our zapatismo in the park discussion, was the moderator! Anyway, here is the link to all of the audios for all of the talks at counterPULSE. The one that I attended was:

Anti-systemic knowledge: learning from the South
Wed. May 20 A Global Commons Foundation Co-Production
The coloniality of power/knowledge, transmodernity, border knowledge, indigenous socialism and socialization of power, solidarity economy, and other contemporary practices, theories and radical political alternatives emerging from the Global South. With UC Berkeley’s Roberto D. Hernández, George Cicarelio Maher, plus Roxanne Dunbar Ortiz (militant historian and author), Andrej Grubacic (Global Commons)

it is the second to last audio posted up, so you gotta scroll down pretty far:

Interesting information here regarding “diversity” (god i hate that word) from the viewpoint of “los de arriba” at the university…

reading through it rather quickly, more than a few ideas generated inside my little head about possible ways the free school could make some critical interventions….what do you all think?
