Photos of Keralan forest gardens
Keralan forest gardens are a naturally evolving over the aeons type example of this natural ecology based system of growing edible and useful plants in woodland senarios. Thus I felt compelled to visit the relevant area in India whilst there. It was quite an expedition - to locate the famous forest gardens of Kerala!...suddenly I stumbled into an area full of them..every house seeming to have a patch of edible etc woodland outside. Some places have taboos about photographing people, (especially women) thus no human beings in the pics, by the way. They were, massively in general, very friendly in Kerala. In fact often in places seeing few or no westeners, I would be surrounded by a crowd of people all jabbering, laughing, practicing English etc. Generally good naturered..but I would tend to resist the tendancy to merely reply passivly to the usual questions (where are you from, what work do you do?)...and instead immediate give some positive input about the possibilities in the locality ...and carry on talking quickly. Then the older folks would stop by and listen. I do think that many areas in India would benefit from permaculture.
The first batch of photos were taken about 60km from Munnar, Idukki province, Kerala state, India. 1000M above sea level. Semi tropical dryish forest is the natural habitat.
